Senior Systems Administrator

Responsibilities:

The Senior System Administrator role provides system administration maintenance and support for the NPAC  (Number Portability Administration Center) Lab and Production Telecommunications Application Service environments.  The Senior System Administrator is a crucial member of our Operations team and is responsible for overseeing the installation, configuration, maintenance, and troubleshooting of hardware, software, and network systems. 

This position has the following responsibilities:

  • Must be available to work 24 x 7 on-call rotation during off-hours to support the needs of the business:  nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Must be available to work off-hours maintenance activities, as needed and required.
  • Must be willing to perform data center support activities on-site, both on and off hours, as needed and required.
  • Must have US Citizenship
  • Provide system administration maintenance and support for various telecommunication-based service platforms. 
  • Relevant Oracle and HP hardware experience.
  • Install – rack, stack, and cable new equipment hardware builds or equipment replacements in our data centers.
  • Perform OS (VMware, Linux, Solaris) equipment installation and configurations for new builds and equipment replacements.
  • Perform OS (VMware, Linux, Solaris) and application back-ups for test and production systems.
  • Resolution of platform system issues and alarms.
  • Trace data collection, log file analysis for network/application/middleware devices; service/system trouble correlation and general problem troubleshooting.
  • Incident Management - Perform troubleshooting triage with multiple teams, investigations and mitigation/remediations of trouble tickets.
  • Perform post-mortem and root cause analysis for service impacting issues and generate Root Cause Analysis reports.
  • Batch job scripting, testing, and implementation.
  • Cron jobs and file system maintenance.
  • Change Management - Write and test MOPs (Method of Procedures) for common and complex system administration and operations practices.
  • Write and execute Operations Acceptance Test Plans and Cases.
  • Strictly adhere to standard Methods and Procedures (M&P) and Protocols defined for Operations Center personnel.
  • Develop and maintain technical documentation required to support the platform, such as, Operations Design Requirements documents (ODRs) and Runbooks.
  • Work remote in commutable distance to Bridgewater, NJ or Dallas, TX
     

Recommended Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in technology related field – MIS, Computer Science, Networking, EE, or ME or equivalent experience.
  • Demonstrated Solaris, VMware and Linux system administration expertise.
  • Minimum of 10 years of relevant working experience.
  • Programming:  Proficiency with Linux/Unix Shell Scripting Programming (Python).
  • Demonstrated experience with common server applications:   JBOSS, Tomcat, Oracle.
  • Communication:  TCP/IP, UDP, TCAP, SNMP, SS7, Networking is a plus.
  • Previous operations center experience: technical troubleshooting, customer support, monitoring systems and ticket/incident management, resolution, and escalation processes.
  • Knowledge of IT service operations and management. Experience in a customer care and technical support in an IT environment.
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail and the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Applications Suite and SharePoint.
  • Ability to communicate with all levels of management.

  • Familiarity with ITIL standards, Number Portability, Telecommunications is a plus.
